Members of our Association participated in the 28th
Annual International Folk Festival in Fayetteville, NC. Our
small contingent joined forces with Ukrainians from
Fayetteville and Greensboro, North Carolina, and
Columbia, South Carolina. About 30 nationalities were
represented in the parade, and our group marched
through the streets of downtown Fayetteville with
Ukrainian flags and the tryzub. Eugene Kobiski played
International Festival in Fayetteville 2006
Ukrainian songs on his accordion, and Volodymyr Bilous entertained the crowd with
kozak dance steps. In front of each stage the announcer informed the crowd about
Ukraine, its culture and history. We were cheered by the large crowd along the whole
parade, and we noticed more than one spectator with tears in his eyes; probably a born-
again Ukrainian. Before and after the parade we gathered at the Ukrainian tent,
decorated with the Ukrainian flag, and had the chance to make new friends, both
Ukrainians and Americans interested in Ukraine. The festive atmosphere of the Festival
and the good weather made this a very pleasant experience
